Opening Heart of DANCE Virtual Dance and Training Studio

Opening Heart of DANCE Virtual Dance and Training Studio

Welcome Heart of DANCE virtual studio, offering programs valued around inclusivity, health and connection. After countless hours, adaptations, love, sweat and tears we are launching Heart of DANCE to be shared with the world! Heart of DANCE is a virtual studio, hosting classes online that are designed for people living with diverse abilities. Our classes focus on style over skill, on the expression of movement over technique and dancing with the heart over dancing with the mind. This is an exciting time, bringing a decade of work together to grow our community and invite more people to dance together.

Why are we a virtual studio?
Before the pandemic, classes were taught at community centres, disability organizations and schools. “We absolutely loved being in a space with our friends, dancing together” says, Ashlee, founder of Heart of DANCE. “The pandemic shifted everything to online and at first we were sad about losing the ability to dance in shared physical space, but It was not long before we started to recognize the benefits of teaching dance online, especially within our community. We were able to invite dancers from remote areas that did not have dance as a resource to them. We were able to invite people who had transportation, financial and physical barriers, and to those who did not feel comfortable dancing in front of others. Hosting classes online allowed Heart of DANCE to offer a variety of classes that suited different needs.”

Live Events
We are a virtual studio; however, we do work with organizations that host Heart of DANCE in studio classes. Classes are run periodically in the lower mainland, mainly running camps and small events throughout the year. We post these classes and events on our website for those of you who are in the area are welcomed join.

Social Enterprise Business
Heart of DANCE is not a non-profit. We are a social enterprise business, which means we have a social objective promoting diversity, inclusion, health and accessibility through dance. We offer classes that are a fair rate that allows the company to generate enough revenue to pay for instructors and the behind the scenes cost of running and operating a business. Our proceeds support program outreach, subsidize class costs and host free events throughout the year. We NEVER turn away a dancer who cannot afford classes, we gift them the class. Thanks to the amazing supporters in our community who gift classes to our friends who need a little extra help. Any person visiting the Heart of DANCE website has the ability to purchase the gift of a class for someone else.
Without further ado, we welcome you to the Heart of DANCE studio, the place where every one is a shining star.

With much peace, love and appreciation for you,

Ashlee Hosting Holiday Dance Camp with NSDR

Heart of DANCE partners with North Shore Disability Resource Centre for a Christmas Camp celebration!

December 20 – 24th, 2021, Ashlee shares the joy of dance with the NSDR participants. The NSDR participants whom Ashlee calls dancers, will be learning and co-creating a Christmas and holiday dance performance.  With props, lights, story, imagination and music, the dancers will be the STARS of the show on performance day.

The NSDR is an amazing non-profit organization on the North Shore that assists anyone regardless or age, with any kind of disability.  They focus on building healthy, vibrate communities that are inclusive, free of barriers to participation. “We celebrate the confidence that comes from belonging, and the ability to give us all to reach out potential”.
